Max learns quickly

Max would never do this when Mummy and Daddy are around, but we were gone for the day and the kids were at home. He decided it was okay to jump up on the couch and have a snooze. Laura called us to say he was on the couch, sleeping, and really looked peaceful, so we let him stay... just this once!

Sigh, he's a great dog, but we do have some "training" to do with him still!

Max goes to the vet!

This is proof, we actually managed to poop Max out after a fun walk at the park!

Max had his free "vet check" today after coming to us from the Humane Society. What better way to remember all the stuff she told us today than by putting it into the blog!

• Big news, we were there less than 10 seconds and she said that Max was likely not a pure bred border collie, but looked like he had parts of labrador retriever or cockerspaniel in him. He could be pure bred but she thought just mostly border collie.
• We thought his red eyes might have been because he was in a smoking home (Ashley) or malnutrition (Lisa). Turns out it may just be natural but most likely it is due to elevated blood pressure due to stress, which of course makes a lot of sense. She noticed it was hugely there when she sat on the floor and pulled him in towards her but then disappeared a few minutes later when he relaxed with her.
• She didn't detect any broken bones from earlier in life like we were told, but his gait is a bit different, though fine.
• He gets his shots in two weeks! Lucky him, uhhhh, I'd be happy to drop him off, drive abut 10 miles away, then come back when it is all done, but no such luck.

Sorry Auntie Laura, little Laura has outgrown the Barbie blanket you gave her years ago. Now it's a chew toy!

WalkaMax at Wakamow

Hope you enjoyed the play on words up in the title. We took Max for a walk at Wakamow Park and let him loose for a few minutes. Here's a few snaps of his big night at the park.

Max is ours!!

We signed the papers, Max is ours, and we left instructions on how the previous owner can get ahold of us if he wants to know how he's doing. we celebrated with him by letting him show us his skill!

Max... once again

Well, we're gonna go sign up Max. He's been a great dog and we really love him already. Just a few more pics. We spent some $$$ tonight and got him some real dog supplies, such as his new collar that Lisa was putting on him which of course meant he was going for a walk!

Max, Day 2

This is Max taking Andrew for walk, early this morning. Andrew is the one person in the family who seems to like getting up in the morning so I think he's been nominated for these early morning jaunts.

A few minutes after we got home from church and leaving Max alone for 4 hours for the first time in our house this is the response we get to Lisa grabbing the leash. No damage done to the home by the way.

Welcome to our home Max!

This is Max. Lisa FINALLY relented yesterday and inquired what it would be like to have a dog. Well... that was the sliver of door opening the rest of us in the family needed, and we jumped on it!

We went over to the Moose Jaw Humane Society and there he was, a border collie who had just come in that day from a crying man who had to move to an apartment and couldn't keep him. We are just thinking about this (seriously) and we can take the dog home for a 2 or 3 day trial.

Max is a 5 year old border collie, house trained, travels well, though a little shy. Well, we can attest to all of that even though we've only had him for a few hours. He "went" outside in the back yard within 30 seconds of us taking him out there. We took him on a small shopping expedition and he loves being in the car. He's a little shy around the kids but that'll disappear I think. The real test is when we leave him for a few hours tomorrow at church, and then Monday when we leave him for the whole day.
